Teen Quilt Academy
WOMAN SHOULD NEVER LEARN TO SEW, AND IF SHE CAN SHE SHOULDN'T ADMIT TO IT (- Michael Ondaatje, The English Patient). When Quilter Extraordinaire Aline Chan started Summer Quilt Camp as an offshoot of `Museum Kids’ at Fieldcote 19 years ago, there were 3 students the first year doing embroidery and flower pounding. The next year, 6 persons attended. 19 years later, there is a cult following for Aline!
Adults who plan annual holidays in order to attend each year! From Dr. Paul `The Blade’ Tressel at 70 (so-called because he cuts and irons the fabric like a pro), down to this year’s youngest camper at 10 years of age, Quilt Camp serves a loyal and diverse community. After attending once, many campers do not leave Quilt Camp until they enter university. This year’s quilt had approximately 300 pieces x all the people in the picture! Bravo Aline!
